Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president and MLA Sardar Pargat Singh attended the ‘Mela Ghadri Babeyan Da’ at Desh Bhagat Yadgar Hall in Jalandhar on Sunday, paying tribute to the Ghadar heroes and freedom fighters who struggled for India’s independence.
During his visit, Pargat Singh toured the book stalls at the festival, browsed publications covering different subjects and purchased several books. He expressed satisfaction at the presence of a large number of visitors, particularly children and young people, at the stalls.
He said literary festivals played an important role in preserving literature and cultural heritage while introducing younger generations to the habit of reading.
“The encouraging turnout at the book stalls reflects that people continue to seek good literature, purchase books and expand their knowledge through such events,” he said, describing the interest shown by children and youngsters as a positive sign for the future of reading.
Pargat Singh also interacted with members of the Desh Bhagat Yadgar Hall management committee and visitors, discussing the organisation and historical significance of the festival.
Recalling his earlier visits, he said he felt a deep connection with the event and expressed his desire to continue attending it in the coming years. He said remembering the sacrifices and ideals of the Ghadar revolutionaries was a matter of pride for every Indian.
He further observed that the festival offers an opportunity for people from India and abroad to reconnect with the freedom struggle and the legacy of the Ghadar heroes. Such events, he said, help pass on historical awareness, patriotism and social consciousness to future generations.
