Singer Sonu Nigam has taken a nostalgic trip down memory lane by sharing a photograph from a live stage performance with legendary singer Asha Bhosle, offering a glimpse into their long-standing musical association.

The photograph, dating back to May 2007, captures the two singers performing together. Sonu is seen wearing a black T-shirt and light-coloured jeans, holding a microphone, while Asha, dressed in a light-coloured saree, sings alongside him.

Sonu has often spoken about his admiration for Asha and the important role she played in his musical journey. The veteran singer was a source of encouragement and guidance for him during the early years of his career, and their professional association grew into a bond marked by warmth and mutual affection.

Recalling one such moment from their 2007 tour of the United States, Sonu had shared an anecdote about Asha experiencing pain because of a heel spur. Having seen his mother suffer from a similar condition, he offered to massage Asha’s feet to ease her discomfort. The gesture stayed with the legendary singer, who continued to remind him of it even years later.

Asha Bhosle passed away on April 12, 2026, at the age of 92. Following her demise, Sonu paid an emotional tribute to the iconic vocalist, remembering her as one of the greatest singers and a pioneering figure in Indian film music.

“Curtain down on one of the greatest ever crooners of all time. The last standing warrior of the pioneering era of Indian film music has called it quits today and bid her final goodbye to us all,” he wrote.

Reflecting on their decades-long association, Sonu recalled first meeting and singing with Asha in 1994, their last concert together in December 2024, and their final two duets recorded the following year.

“Asha Ji, I will always remember the journey I have had with you from 1994, when I first met and sang with you, through our last concert with each other in Dec 2024, till our last two duets together last year, with absolute joy and pride. All I can say is chale to gaye ho par, dil abhi bhara nahin. See you on the other side,” he wrote.

Days after her passing, Sonu also urged people to celebrate Asha’s remarkable life and achievements rather than focus solely on grief.

“I am sad that she is gone, but I do not want to make it about sadness. She lived a very full life and worked until the very end. Is this a life to cry for?” he said.

The two singers collaborated on several songs over the years, including ‘Koi Dil Na Kisi Se Lagaye’ from ‘Sauda’ (1995), ‘Tere Dil Ke Paas’ from ‘Hindustan Ki Kasam’ (1999) and ‘Kambakth Ishq’ from ‘Pyaar Tune Kya Kiya’ (2001).

Sonu’s latest throwback offers a reminder of the musical memories and personal bond he shared with one of India’s most celebrated playback singers.
