Mumbai, October 16, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Actor Lekha Washington has broken her silence after her partner, actor Imran Khan, was issued a notice by Mumbai Police directing him to leave India by October 28 following his participation in a protest demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

Lekha shared a photograph of herself with Imran inside a police van after the two were detained on October 10 in connection with the protest. She captioned the picture with the word “Just”, accompanied by several heart emojis, marking her first public reaction to the development.

Imran received the notice on October 15. According to the information provided, action has been initiated against the actor under Sections 7 and 29 of the Immigration and Foreigners Act over his alleged participation in the protest despite not being an Indian citizen.

The actor is now considering approaching the Bombay High Court to challenge the notice issued by the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO).

Imran has engaged MZM Legal LLP to represent him in the matter. Zulfiqar Memon, managing partner of the law firm, was contacted for comment but declined to comment at this stage.

The development follows a move by BJP leader and former MP Kirit Somaiya, who approached the Union Ministry of Home Affairs and immigration authorities on October 13, urging them to issue a Look Out Circular (LOC) against the actor.

Imran was detained by police on October 10 in connection with the protest. The subsequent notice directing him to leave India has brought renewed attention to the actor’s immigration status and his planned legal challenge.

Imran, nephew of superstar Aamir Khan, began his acting career as a child artist in ‘Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar’ (1992) and ‘Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak’ (1988). He made his adult acting debut with the 2008 romantic comedy ‘Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na’, which emerged as a commercial success.

He subsequently starred in films such as ‘I Hate Luv Storys’, ‘Mere Brother Ki Dulhan’, ‘Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu’ and ‘Delhi Belly’. A series of box-office disappointments was followed by an extended break from acting.

Imran recently returned to the screen with a cameo in Vir Das’ film ‘Happy Patel: Khatarnak Jasoos’, which also features Mithila Palkar, Mona Singh, Sharib Hashmi and Srushti Tawade. The appearance marked his return after his last leading role in ‘Katti Batti’ (2015).
