A special team of Howrah City Police in West Bengal has reached Delhi to question a woman detained by Delhi Police for allegedly posing as an official from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) and entering the state secretariat, Nabanna, in Kolkata.
The woman, identified as Akanksha Vidyarthi, allegedly visited the State Public Works Department (PWD) office at Nabanna on Wednesday after securing a prior appointment. She reportedly introduced herself as a PMO official and questioned department officials about its functioning.
According to a West Bengal Police officer, some PWD officials became suspicious of her identity. Sensing their doubts, Vidyarthi allegedly left the secretariat premises. After confirming that she had provided a false identity, the PWD lodged a written complaint with Howrah City Police.
By the time the complaint was filed, the woman had reportedly flown back to Delhi.
A police source said Howrah City Police received information about her whereabouts on Wednesday evening and contacted Delhi Police. A team subsequently travelled to the national capital, where Vidyarthi was reportedly detained.
The investigating officers are questioning her to establish why she allegedly entered Nabanna while posing as a PMO official. Police are also examining whether she had links to an organised group that may have been involved in the alleged impersonation.
A West Bengal Police officer said investigators were treating the matter seriously and were pursuing all possible leads. Further investigation is underway.
