AAP MP Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer on Saturday announced that Cosco cricket has been included in the fourth season of ‘Khedan Watan Punjab Diyan’ for the first time, giving grassroots cricket players across Punjab an opportunity to compete in the state’s flagship sporting event.
Meet Hayer said cricket enthusiasts had been consistently demanding the inclusion of the sport in the annual games. Responding to the demand, the Punjab government has introduced Cosco cricket in Season 4, allowing teams to be formed at both village and urban ward levels.
“Cricket lovers have been demanding that this time cricket should be included in ‘Khedan Watan Punjab Diyan’. I am particularly happy to announce that Cosco cricket has been included for the first time this year. I congratulate all cricket enthusiasts across Punjab on this,” he said.
He urged cricket players to form teams in their villages, while those living in cities can organise teams at the ward level and participate in the competition.
According to Meet Hayer, online registration for the games will remain open until September 10 through the Punjab Sports Department’s official website. He appealed to players and sports enthusiasts to register at the earliest and ensure maximum participation.
He said the objective of ‘Khedan Watan Punjab Diyan’ goes beyond organising competitions and is aimed at reviving and strengthening Punjab’s sports culture by taking sporting activities to villages and urban wards.
“The objective is not just to organise competitions, but to revive and further strengthen Punjab’s sports culture. I appeal to cricket lovers to form their village or ward teams and participate in large numbers,” Meet Hayer said.
He described the initiative as an important effort by the Punjab government under Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to reconnect people, particularly young people, with sports and build a stronger sporting culture across the state.
Meet Hayer also encouraged teams from villages and cities to prepare seriously and compete with determination, saying the new format would provide grassroots cricket players with a platform to showcase their talent at the state level.
