Actress Lisa Ray recently gave fans a glimpse into her Jaipur getaway with her daughters, sharing moments centred on the Pink City’s art, culture, cuisine, architecture and shopping.
Taking to Instagram, the Four More Shots Please! actress shared a series of photographs and videos from the family trip, capturing the mother-daughter trio exploring Jaipur’s colourful streets and historic surroundings.
Lisa reflected on the city’s ability to blend its rich heritage with contemporary sensibilities. During their visit, she and her daughters enjoyed a traditional Rajasthani thali at The Padmaa Jaipur, a restaurant housed in a converted haveli in the old city. Travelling through Jaipur’s narrow lanes in a tuk-tuk also became part of the experience, much to her daughters’ delight.
“What can look, at first, like a glorious jumble of colour, texture and impressions is actually something far more considered: an aesthetic lineage constantly being reimagined. Jaipur today, seems to understand how to make the old flirt with the new,” Lisa wrote.
She also visited the Jaipur Centre for Art, where she met cultural curator Noelle Kadar. Lisa said her daughters watched young Jaipur artists working during Kadar’s residency before joining in themselves after one of the artists brought out watercolour pencils.
“That might be one of my favourite memories of this trip: not simply showing my daughters art, but watching them enter its world,” she wrote.
The family also returned to the City Palace, followed by some shopping at local design and craft destinations.
Reflecting on the trip, Lisa described Jaipur as a place where history and modernity coexist and where traditions continue to be experienced, celebrated and reinvented.
“That’s Jaipur for me. History without dust. Tradition without rigidity. Beauty that isn’t preserved behind glass but worn, eaten, painted, printed, lived in — and continually reinvented. Jaipur, you have all our hearts,” she wrote.
