Actor Jyotika has expressed support for ongoing protests against the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET), backing students demanding reforms in the medical entrance examination system and calling for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
Jyotika shared her views through a post on Instagram as protests against NEET continued in several parts of the country. Student organisations, youth groups and activists have been demanding greater transparency in the examination process and action over alleged irregularities.
The protests intensified after the ‘Sansad Chalo’ march in New Delhi earlier this week, where students and supporters of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) marched towards Parliament seeking an investigation into alleged question paper leaks and other examination-related concerns.
The march saw a heavy police presence, with several protesters, including opposition leaders, detained while attempting to move towards Parliament. The police action has drawn criticism from political groups and activists.
In Tamil Nadu, opposition to NEET has remained a major issue, with student groups and organisations continuing demonstrations demanding changes to the examination system.
In her social media post, Jyotika directly addressed the Union Education Minister, writing, “Dharmendra Pradhan, step down; resign. I stand with the students and the future of our nation, committed to a democratic India and educational reform.”
The actor also praised the younger generation for raising concerns over education and democratic values.
“To the Gen-Z generation—uninhibited and transparent—we are proud of you,” she wrote.
Jyotika acknowledged the role of the Cockroach Janata Party in mobilising protests and highlighted the contributions of education reform activist Sonam Wangchuk and CJP leaders Abhijit Dipke and Saurav Das.
“As mothers, we wish to raise our children to be like you. Thank you, CJP, for making us fearless,” she said.
Her remarks add to the growing number of voices from the political, entertainment and education sectors seeking reforms in the NEET system and greater accountability in the conduct of the examination.
