Mayawati Calls for Education Reforms Amid NEET Paper Leak Row, Warns Against Politicisation

Lucknow, July 25, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati on Saturday said the focus on education reforms should not be lost amid the escalating political dispute between the government and opposition parties over the NEET-UG paper leak and other examination irregularities.

In a post on X, Mayawati said the protest at New Delhi’s Jantar Mantar by members of the ‘Cockroach Janta Party’ (CJP), formed in the wake of alleged examination paper leaks and student suicides, has received public support.

However, she expressed concern that demands for the resignation of the Union Education Minister, raised as an issue of accountability, have intensified political confrontation and may divert attention from the need for comprehensive reforms in the education system.

The BSP leader said opposition parties were competing to gain political advantage from the issue through protests and parliamentary debates, while the growing confrontation between the ruling party and opposition could affect normal functioning in states as well.

She also criticised the government’s response to the agitation, saying that action taken after paper leaks occur is not enough and that stronger preventive mechanisms are needed to stop such incidents before they happen.

Mayawati said corruption and administrative failures behind examination irregularities must be addressed through systemic changes rather than only through punitive measures after the damage is done.

She noted that political tensions over the issue have contributed to disruptions in the Monsoon Session of Parliament, preventing discussions on several other matters of public importance.

Urging BSP workers to remain calm and committed, Mayawati advised them to avoid aggression or disappointment and continue working with dedication despite the prevailing political atmosphere.
