The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) on Saturday accused the Delhi Police of restricting access to its ongoing protest at Jantar Mantar and urged the force to end what it described as the “unlawful detention and intimidation” of people attempting to join the demonstration.
In a statement shared on X by CJP spokesperson Saurav Das, the organisation alleged that police personnel were preventing supporters from reaching the protest site and obstructing the supply of food, drinking water, medicines and other essential items meant for protesters.
The CJP claimed that students, parents, teachers and other citizens have been holding a peaceful protest at Jantar Mantar for over a month, demanding accountability over examination paper leaks, recruitment irregularities and student suicides linked to the alleged NEET 2026 paper leak.
According to the party, volunteers carrying essential supplies were being stopped from entering the protest venue, creating what it termed an atmosphere of “fear and siege” around Jantar Mantar.
The CJP maintained that Jantar Mantar is a designated venue for peaceful demonstrations and asserted that protesters were exercising their constitutional right to assemble and express dissent. Citing Supreme Court observations on the right to peaceful protest, it said the role of the police was to regulate such gatherings rather than suppress them.
The organisation appealed to the Delhi Police Commissioner to direct officials to stop detaining citizens seeking to join the protest, allow access to food, water, medicines and sanitation supplies, and ensure unhindered entry for volunteers, family members, lawyers, journalists and medical personnel.
There was no immediate response from the Delhi Police to the allegations.
