Maharashtra Govt’s Move to Amend Takht Hazur Sahib Act Unfortunate, Sikh Community Must Oppose It: Karnail Singh Peer Mohammad

Amritsar, June 24, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Senior Vice President and Chief Spokesperson of Shiromani Akali Dal (Punar Surjeet), Karnail Singh Peer Mohammad, has strongly opposed the Maharashtra Government’s reported decision to implement a new Act governing the management of Takht Sri Hazur Sahib, Nanded.

In a written statement issued here on Wednesday, Peer Mohammad said the move has generated widespread resentment among the global Sikh community and devotees of Guru Nanak.

Speaking to the media, he said Takht Sri Hazur Sahib, Nanded, is one of the five sacred Takhts of the Sikh faith and holds immense religious significance as the historic place associated with the Tenth Sikh Guru, Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji.

He stated that the traditions, religious code, and management of the revered Takht are deeply connected with Sikh religious sentiments and Panthic heritage.

Peer Mohammad asserted that the Sikh community firmly believes that no government should interfere in the administration of Sikh religious institutions in a manner that affects their autonomy, centuries-old traditions, or established Panthic Maryada.

He said the Sikh community has always remained committed to safeguarding the independence and sanctity of its religious institutions and that Sikhs across the world would unite to raise their voice on this sensitive issue.

On behalf of Shiromani Akali Dal (Punar Surjeet), Peer Mohammad urged the Maharashtra Government to fully respect the religious sentiments of the Sikh community and refrain from taking any step that could adversely affect Panthic unity, religious freedom, or the dignity and traditions of Takht Sri Hazur Sahib.

Concluding his statement, he offered prayers before the Almighty, seeking blessings for the continued unity of the Sikh Panth and the preservation of the rich traditions and sanctity of all Sikh Takhts.
