The Government of Punjab, through the Department of Home Affairs (Home-I Branch), has ordered the promotion of 12 Indian Police Service (IPS) officers to the rank of Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG). The promotions, in Level 13-A of the Pay Matrix, will take effect from January 1, 2026, as per an official order issued by the Governor of Punjab.

Conditions Attached to the Promotions
The promotions are subject to the outcome of all pending court cases, if any.
Officers Sandeep Kumar Garg, Gulneet Singh Khurana, and Akhil Chaudhary will receive actual financial benefits and future increments only after completion of Phase-III of the Mid-Career Training Programme.
Officers at Sr. Nos. 1, 2, 3, 9, 10, 11, and 12 will accrue financial benefits and increments only after confirmation in the Indian Police Service.
As a safeguard, the promotion orders for officers at Sr. Nos. 1, 2, 3, 9, 10, 11, and 12 will remain subject to review by the Select List / re-determination of seniority or year of allotment, if required.
Sealed Cover Case
The name of Vivek Sheel Soni has been kept in sealed cover on the recommendation of the Screening Committee due to pending disciplinary proceedings. The sealed cover will be opened after the conclusion of the proceedings .
The order was issued with the approval of the competent authority and signed by Alok Shekhar, Additional Chief Secretary to the Government of Punjab, Department of Home Affairs, on December 31, 2025. Copies have been forwarded to the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Director General of Police, Punjab, and other concerned offices for necessary action.
