The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Monday arrested two field supervisors of the J&K Women’s Development Corporation in connection with an alleged bribery case.
According to an ACB statement, the bureau received a written complaint alleging that Owais Ahmad Khan, a Field Supervisor, had demanded an illegal gratification from the complainant for facilitating the release and disbursement of a sanctioned loan of Rs 3 lakh under the Women Entrepreneurship Platform (WEP) Scheme.
The complainant, unwilling to pay the alleged bribe, approached the ACB and submitted a written complaint. The allegations were subsequently verified, and the verification prima facie established a demand for illegal gratification.
Following the verification, the ACB registered FIR No. 15/2026 at Police Station ACB Srinagar under Sections 7 and 7A of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, and Section 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). An investigation was initiated and a trap team constituted.
During the trap operation, Khan was allegedly caught red-handed while demanding and accepting the bribe from the complainant in exchange for facilitating the release of the sanctioned loan amount.
The ACB said another public servant, Meiraj-ud-din Sheikh, also a Field Supervisor, was arrested at the spot for his alleged involvement in the offence. His exact role and involvement are being ascertained as part of the ongoing investigation.
The alleged bribe money was recovered from the accused in the presence of independent witnesses, the bureau said.
Both accused underwent medico-legal formalities and were subsequently lodged at Police Station Shaheed Gunj in Srinagar.
The ACB said further investigation into the case is underway.
