Actor and entrepreneur Raj Kundra has expressed his interest in producing more Punjab-centric films, saying the region has several meaningful stories that are yet to reach the big screen.
In an interaction with IANS, Raj said he is focusing on projects that have substance rather than taking up roles merely for visibility. He added that situational stories and characters reflecting different stages of life appeal to him.
“There are so many substantial stories in Punjab that have not made it to the screens yet,” he said.
Talking about his upcoming film The Great Punjab Robbery, Raj said the project aims to present a message around rebuilding and celebrating Punjab. He revealed that the film was initially planned with director Saurabh Varma before Mehar, but the project could not move ahead at the time due to financial constraints.
After the release of Mehar, Raj said several producers approached him and discussions around The Great Punjab Robbery eventually led to the film taking shape.
Without disclosing details about his next project, Raj said his film after The Great Punjab Robbery will be a home production with a pan-India appeal.
Raj Kundra made his Punjabi film debut with Mehar, released in 2025. The film followed the emotional journey of Karamjit Singh, a rural Punjabi theatre actor struggling to protect his family, maintain dignity and find a new beginning.
Directed and written by Saurabh Varma, The Great Punjab Robbery is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on August 7.
