One Indian Killed in Attack on Commercial Vessel in Black Sea, Two Others Safe: MEA

New Delhi, July 24, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

One Indian national was killed after a commercial vessel came under attack while transiting the Black Sea, reportedly in Russian territorial waters, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Friday.

According to the MEA, the commercial vessel MV OMORFI was attacked on July 18 while sailing through the Black Sea. The ship had 10 crew members on board, including three Indian nationals.

“As per available information, one Indian national tragically lost his life in the attack. We extend our deepest condolences to the bereaved family of the deceased. The other two Indian nationals on board are reported to be safe,” the ministry said in a statement.

The MEA said the Indian Mission in Russia has contacted the relevant authorities and is extending all possible assistance to the affected family.

Condemning the attack, the ministry said India strongly opposes assaults on commercial shipping that endanger civilian crew members and threaten freedom of navigation.

“It is a matter of serious concern that the freedom of navigation and international commerce is facing increasing threats. India calls upon all concerned parties to uphold international obligations to ensure the safety and security of maritime navigation and uninterrupted flow of global commerce,” the statement said.

The incident comes days after four Indian nationals were killed in an attack on the commercial vessel MV Golden Leopard, which had departed from Odesa port in Ukraine.

Reiterating its position, the MEA said attacks targeting commercial vessels and innocent civilian crew members are deplorable and stressed the need to safeguard maritime navigation and international commerce.
