Actor Sunny Deol met Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in Lucknow on Friday during his promotional tour for his upcoming period film ‘Batwara 1947’.
Deol shared a photograph with the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister on Instagram and described their meeting as a warm and pleasant interaction.
“While in Lucknow, it was a pleasure to meet the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Shri Yogi Adityanath ji. I had a very pleasant and warm conversation with him,” the actor wrote.
The actor is currently travelling to promote ‘Batwara 1947’, a film set against the backdrop of the Partition of India and the humanitarian crisis that accompanied the country’s transition to independence from British rule.
Earlier, Deol and his son Karan Deol travelled to Patna to begin the film’s promotional campaign. The father-son duo was greeted by a large media presence at the airport before leaving for their scheduled engagements.
Directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, the film also features Shabana Azmi, Preity G Zinta, Ali Fazal and Abhimanyu Singh. It follows a family whose lives are transformed by the violence, fear and forced migration that accompanied Partition, while highlighting compassion, resilience and hope amid the upheaval.
The film has also generated interest because of its reported ban in Pakistan.
‘Batwara 1947’ brings together Aamir Khan, A.R. Rahman and Javed Akhtar, who previously collaborated on the acclaimed ‘Lagaan’. It also reunites Santoshi and Deol nearly three decades after their earlier collaborations.
Produced by Aamir Khan and Aparna Purohit, the film is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on August 14, 2026.
