Panic gripped the District Court Complex in Ferozepur on Friday morning after a bomb threat was received through the court’s official email, prompting police to evacuate the premises and temporarily suspend public entry as security agencies carried out an extensive search.
The threat came on a day when the National Lok Adalat was scheduled to be held at the complex. Although preparations for the event had been completed, police cleared the premises as a precautionary measure. Court work remained suspended until around 11.30 am while security checks were underway, after which proceedings resumed.
Soon after the threatening email was received, SP Dalbir Singh, DSP (D) Barjinder Singh, DSP (Rural) Karan Sharma and other senior police officials reached the court complex. Dog squads and bomb disposal teams were deployed to conduct a thorough search.
Police teams checked courtrooms, offices, corridors and other areas of the premises. No suspicious object had been found till the filing of this report.
SP Dalbir Singh said the entire complex had been thoroughly searched and no suspicious object was found. He said the threat was being taken seriously and all possible aspects were being investigated.
Technical teams were also working to trace the sender of the threatening email, he added.
The latest incident has raised concerns as it is reportedly the fifth bomb threat received by the Ferozepur court complex in about nine months. Similar threatening emails were received on January 8, April 6, August 12 and August 26.
The repeated threats have caused concern among lawyers, judicial officials and visitors and have also disrupted normal court functioning.
