NIA Court Issues Second Non-Bailable Warrant Against LeT Chief Hafiz Saeed

A special National Investigation Agency (NIA) court in Jammu has issued a fresh Non-Bailable Warrant (NBW) against Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) chief Hafiz Muhammad Saeed in connection with allegations of supplying weapons, funds and directions to terrorists operating in Kashmir.

The order, passed on September 8, is the second such warrant issued against Saeed in two months.

The NIA court issued the warrant after the investigating agency submitted that Saeed’s involvement had surfaced during the investigation and that he was allegedly involved in terrorism. The court noted that the accused was at large and that the investigating agency had been unable to secure his attendance through ordinary means.

The court directed that the warrant be forwarded to the Deputy Inspector General (DIG), NIA Jammu, for execution in accordance with the prescribed legal procedure.

Saeed is the founder of the Pakistan-based proscribed terrorist organisation LeT and is among India’s most-wanted terrorists. Indian agencies have been pursuing legal action against him in connection with alleged cross-border conspiracies and attacks in Jammu and Kashmir.

According to the source, Pakistan maintains that the 76-year-old Saeed is serving multiple prison sentences totalling more than 30 years at Kot Lakhpat Jail in Lahore following convictions by an anti-terrorism court in terror-financing cases.

Indian intelligence agencies, however, have alleged that elements within Pakistan’s establishment continue to shield Saeed from full accountability.
