New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) Vice Chairperson Kuljeet Singh Chahal on Friday visited the Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC) to review civic preparations and arrangements for the BRICS Summit 2026.
Described by the NDMC as the Council’s “third eye”, the command centre monitors traffic, sanitation, drainage, beautification and other civic services around the clock, enabling officials to identify potential problems and take prompt corrective action.
Chahal said the NDMC was fully committed to keeping New Delhi clean, attractive, safe and well-organised during the BRICS Summit.
Established in 2020 under the Smart City Project at a cost of Rs 65 crore, the ICCC operates 24×7 with 50 dedicated staff and monitors civic services through 18 screens.
The centre tracks nearly 16,252 smart street lights across the NDMC area, including their operational status, faulty lights and on/off and dimming functions. It also uses GPS to monitor 918 smart bin vehicles, 16 construction and demolition waste vehicles and nine mechanical road sweepers.
Road conditions are monitored through CCTV cameras installed by multiple agencies. The network includes 333 cameras in the NDMC area, 25 around Hanuman Mandir, 276 installed by the Delhi Police and 214 operated by the Public Works Department.
The ICCC also monitors waterlogging through CCTV, helping officials identify vulnerable locations and manage them during adverse conditions.
As part of its BRICS preparations, the NDMC has also undertaken extensive beautification and green-space improvement works across central Delhi.
To enhance the appearance of the capital for visiting BRICS delegates and international guests, decorative illumination has been carried out at 17 major roundabouts, 11 hotel premises and 10 prominent NDMC buildings.
According to the NDMC, the illumination is intended to give key locations a distinctive and elegant appearance while reflecting the international significance of the BRICS Summit.
