South African President Cyril Ramaphosa met Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani in New Delhi on Friday as part of his business engagements on the sidelines of the 18th BRICS Summit, with efforts to deepen trade and investment ties between South Africa and India featuring prominently on his agenda.

The South African government said on X that Ramaphosa held the engagement with Adani during the BRICS Summit in the Indian capital.

The meeting formed part of South Africa’s broader business outreach during the summit and its efforts to strengthen commercial and investment relations with India.

Ahead of the BRICS Summit, Ramaphosa also held a strategic briefing with the South African delegation. According to the government, South Africa will use the summit to advance diplomatic and economic priorities, including increasing intra-BRICS trade and investment, promoting industrialisation and value addition, and attracting investment into African infrastructure in line with the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

Ramaphosa is accompanied during his India visit by Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Ronald Lamola, Minister in the Presidency Khumbudzo Ntshavheni, Deputy Minister of Trade, Industry and Competition Zuko Godlimpi, and senior government officials.

At the BRICS Business Forum, Ramaphosa also addressed issues including trade and supply chains, agriculture, women-led development, the digital economy and innovation.

On Saturday, he is scheduled to participate in a closed-door session of BRICS leaders titled “Inclusive Global Governance and Strengthening Multilateralism.” The session will focus on creating a more inclusive, representative and responsive global governance system, including reforms to the United Nations, international financial architecture and the multilateral trading system.

Ramaphosa will also address the India-South Africa Business Leadership Roundtable, where discussions will focus on strengthening bilateral trade and investment.

During his remaining engagements, the South African President is expected to hold bilateral meetings with other heads of state and government and interact with business leaders and industry representatives.
