Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said India and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) were now focused on taking their bilateral relationship to a higher level as he met Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan on the sidelines of the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi.
The two leaders discussed ways to deepen the India-UAE Strategic Partnership across key areas, including defence, artificial intelligence, space, critical minerals, energy, food security and connectivity.
After the meeting, Modi said on X that India-UAE ties had undergone a transformation in recent years and that both countries were now “raising our ambitions even higher”.
Highlighting the scope for expanding bilateral cooperation in investment, strategic energy infrastructure and India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC) connectivity, the Prime Minister said that at a time of uncertainty in West Asia, a strong India-UAE partnership was a symbol of stability, prosperity and peace.
Modi also appreciated the UAE’s active and constructive participation in BRICS under India’s chairship. Both leaders welcomed the positive outcomes achieved within the grouping and agreed to continue working closely through BRICS to advance shared interests and priorities and further strengthen cooperation, according to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).
The leaders reiterated the significance of the India-UAE Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, which is anchored in political, cultural, commercial, energy and people-to-people ties. They also recalled the recent visits of UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to India in January 2026 and Prime Minister Modi to the UAE in May 2026.
The two sides reviewed progress across a wide range of sectors and welcomed the UAE-based International Holding Company’s announcement of an $11.5 billion investment in an integrated greenfield aluminium project in Odisha. The project is expected to become India’s largest integrated aluminium investment and help position Odisha as a global aluminium manufacturing hub.
The leaders also discussed the potential role of L’Imad, the UAE’s newest sovereign investment fund, in further strengthening the bilateral partnership. Cooperation in strategic and emerging sectors, including defence, space, nuclear energy, technology and innovation, was also discussed.
The MEA said the visit reaffirmed the tradition of regular leadership-level engagement and the generational continuity underpinning the enduring India-UAE relationship.
