The Indian Army on Saturday rejected social media reports alleging increased terrorist activity along the Line of Control (LoC) and an “unusual Indian military build-up” in north Kashmir.
The Army also dismissed claims that residents living near major military garrisons in Kupwara and Baramulla districts had been asked to vacate their houses.
In a post on X, the Indian Army’s fact-check account said the handle @KashmirIntel_ was circulating what it described as fake reports linking the alleged terrorist activity to claims about residents being asked to vacate homes near military installations.
“The claims of increased terrorist activities and an ‘unusual Indian military build-up’ along the LoC are totally false,” the Army said.
The Army described the account as a Pakistan-based propaganda account and cautioned people against believing or amplifying unverified information. It further said the account, which it described as being based in Europe, had repeatedly circulated similar misinformation.
According to the Army, the claims were intended to create a misleading narrative about the situation along the LoC.
“Unverified militant claims + unsubstantiated military build-up narrative + speculative linkage = misleading information. Verify before you amplify,” the Army said in its post.
The Army urged people to verify the authenticity of information before sharing or amplifying such reports on social media.
The clarification comes amid continued scrutiny of developments along the LoC and heightened attention to information being circulated through social media platforms.
