Rahul Gandhi Insists No Talks Until Education Minister is Removed, PM Apologises Over Students’ Issue

New Delhi, July 24, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Friday said the Opposition would not participate in any discussion on the students’ issue until Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan is removed from office and Prime Minister Narendra Modi apologises to students.

Addressing reporters outside Parliament, Gandhi alleged that he was not allowed to respond in the Lok Sabha after Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju referred to him during proceedings.

He claimed his microphone was switched off when he attempted to speak, saying parliamentary convention required that he be given an opportunity to respond after being named in the House.

Gandhi said the Opposition’s stand was based on three demands: the removal of the Education Minister, accountability against those responsible for the alleged assault on protesting students, and an apology from the Prime Minister to students.

“We are not going to have any conversation or discussion before Mr. Pradhan is sacked,” Gandhi asserted.

Earlier, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju had accused the Opposition of avoiding a discussion on the alleged examination paper leak and other education-related issues. He urged all parties to meet Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to finalise the date, time and rules for holding a debate during the Monsoon Session.

Several Opposition leaders backed Gandhi’s stand. Congress MP Tariq Anwar alleged that denying the Leader of the Opposition an opportunity to speak was undemocratic, while Samajwadi Party MP Dimple Yadav reiterated the demand for Pradhan’s resignation on moral grounds. Congress MP Kumari Selja also called for withdrawal of FIRs registered against protesters and sought the minister’s resignation.

Meta Description: Rahul Gandhi says the Opposition will not join discussions until Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan is removed and the PM apologises to students.
