The Punjab Government on Saturday launched 100 new Aam Aadmi Clinics across the state, expanding its network of free primary healthcare facilities to 1,090.
Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Balbir Singh inaugurated the newly constructed Aam Aadmi Clinic at Vikas Nagar in Patiala Rural, marking the formal launch of the expansion drive. Cabinet ministers, MLAs and other public representatives also inaugurated 71 new clinics across different districts, while the remaining 29 clinics will be dedicated to the public in a phased manner by July 31.
Several ministers participated in the inauguration programme, including Dr. Baljit Kaur, Lal Chand Kataruchak, Gurmeet Singh Khuddian, Hardeep Singh Mundian, Tarunpreet Singh Sond and Mohinder Bhagat, who dedicated new clinics in their respective areas.
The Punjab Government said Aam Aadmi Clinics have strengthened access to primary healthcare by providing treatment facilities closer to people’s homes. The clinics offer 107 essential medicines and 47 types of laboratory tests free of cost.
Currently, 990 Aam Aadmi Clinics are operational across Punjab, including 414 in urban areas and 576 in rural regions. Each clinic is equipped with a Medical Officer, pharmacist and trained healthcare staff, along with an IT-enabled system for patient registration, diagnosis, treatment and medicine distribution.
The services provided through these clinics have also been expanded to include antenatal care for pregnant women, dog-bite treatment, family planning services, and screening and management of hypertension, diabetes and other non-communicable diseases.
The state government said the expansion of the clinic network is aimed at ensuring accessible and affordable healthcare services for citizens across Punjab.
