Jan Suraaj Party chief and Bankipur MLA Prashant Kishor on Thursday welcomed the Bihar government’s decision to provide financial assistance and a government job to a family member of Bharat Bhushan Tiwari, but said the measure alone did not constitute justice.
Kishor said accountability for the alleged police firing was more important and called for a judicial inquiry to establish the individual responsibility of those who ordered or carried out the firing.
“The judicial inquiry should establish individual responsibility and ensure that those found guilty face legal consequences,” he said.
He questioned why similar assistance was not being provided to families of other young people who had died in police encounters, specifically referring to the family of Bunty Yadav. Kishor argued that relief should not be extended selectively on political considerations.
Kishor made the remarks while visiting residents of Ward No. 16 in the Bankipur Assembly constituency in Patna and thanking voters following his electoral victory. Supporters marked the occasion by weighing him against laddus before he addressed the gathering.
He said no amount of financial compensation or a government job could compensate a family for the loss of a loved one, reiterating that responsibility for the alleged police action must be fixed.
Kishor also targeted Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, claiming that the Bankipur election result had increased pressure on the government over questions surrounding police encounters and influenced its decision regarding Tiwari’s family.
Turning to education, Kishor raised concerns over private-school fees, alleging that families were being burdened by high charges, including re-admission and uniform-related expenses. He said he would meet school administrators and seek measures to reduce the financial burden on parents.
Kishor promised a qualitative improvement in government schools across Bankipur by next year’s Dussehra. He said that if the commitment was not fulfilled, he would personally take responsibility for enrolling children from affected families in private schools and paying their fees.
On employment, he reiterated his plan to facilitate private-sector jobs for at least one educated person from each of 10,000 families in Bankipur, with a particular focus on unemployed educated youth.
The employment pledge builds on his earlier commitment to connect 10,000 youths from the constituency with private-sector jobs, making education, employment and accountability key priorities of his initial political programme as MLA.
