The Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS), in a joint operation with Kalaburagi Police, detained two people from Karnataka’s Kalaburagi district on Thursday over their alleged links with Pakistan and the terror outfit ISIS, police said.
The detained persons were identified as Mohammad Sameer and Salman, both reportedly from Uttar Pradesh. Preliminary inquiries indicated that the two were working at a beef export factory in Kalaburagi district.
According to police, the suspects were allegedly in regular contact with Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and ISIS through WhatsApp calls and Facebook.
Their detention followed an inter-state social media monitoring exercise in which their online accounts were reportedly tracked over alleged anti-national activities. Based on information gathered during the monitoring, the Uttar Pradesh ATS and Kalaburagi Police jointly carried out the operation and took the two into custody.
The suspects have been taken to an undisclosed location for questioning by the ATS. A case has also been registered at Kalaburagi University Police Station.
Police said further details about the alleged links and activities are expected to emerge during interrogation.
The development comes days after the Uttar Pradesh ATS detained two other suspects from Karnataka’s Tumakuru and Davanagere districts over their alleged links with terror organisations operating from Pakistan.
In June 2026, a 20-year-old migrant worker, Suhail, from Uttar Pradesh was arrested in Davanagere in a joint operation involving local police and intelligence officials, based on inputs from the National Investigation Agency (NIA). He was accused of having online radicalisation links and communicating with Pakistan-based handlers.
Suhail, who worked as a factory painter, was arrested after interrogation of suspects detained earlier in June in Tumakuru and Davanagere in connection with alleged cross-border social media messaging. Investigators reportedly found suspicious WhatsApp group links, contacts based in Pakistan and digital data indicating alleged online radicalisation.
