International humanitarian organisation UNITED SIKHS has expressed condolences and solidarity with the people of Colombia following the devastating 7.4-magnitude earthquake that struck the country on August 10.
In a statement issued from New York, the UN-affiliated organisation said the disaster had claimed lives, left people missing under rubble, displaced families and caused widespread hardship across affected communities.
Citing the Colombian Geological Service, UNITED SIKHS said the earthquake was the strongest recorded in Colombia in at least the last decade.
The organisation expressed sympathy with families who lost loved ones and extended prayers for those injured in the disaster. It said the collapse of homes, disruption of livelihoods and widespread suffering had created an urgent need for humanitarian assistance.
UNITED SIKHS urged governments, humanitarian organisations and the international community to ensure that assistance reaches people most in need without delay. It said financial contributions, volunteer services and advocacy could strengthen collective efforts to rebuild affected communities and restore dignity to survivors.
UNITED SIKHS’ Humanitarian Mission
UNITED SIKHS said its humanitarian work is guided by Sikh principles of selfless service and the welfare of all. The organisation has mobilised relief efforts during crises including floods in Punjab, hurricanes in the Caribbean and earthquakes in Venezuela.
The organisation said it was extending the same commitment to Colombia and called for unity and support for communities affected by the earthquake.
“In these difficult times, we echo the call to Recognize the Human Race as One,” UNITED SIKHS said, urging people to stand with Colombians, offer prayers and extend support.
The organisation expressed hope that communities affected by the disaster would rebuild with resilience and emerge from the tragedy with renewed strength and hope.
