Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani on Wednesday recalled his early struggles and said the young Indians working at the conglomerate’s project sites across the country remind him of his own journey as a teenager who left home in search of opportunities.
In a post on X, Adani said he sees a reflection of his own story whenever young people from different parts of India arrive at Adani Group project sites with aspirations of building a better future.
“From every corner of the country, when young people leave behind their homes, their families, arriving at our Project Sites with dreams in their eyes, I see my own journey reflected in them,” he said.
Recalling his decision to leave for Mumbai at the age of 16, Adani said he entered an unfamiliar city without the comfort of his mother’s home-cooked food, his father’s protection or a predetermined career path.
“16 years of age. The first step toward Mumbai,” he wrote.
Adani said the only things he had at the time were the determination to work hard and the willingness to learn something new every day.
“No mother’s home-cooked meals. No sense of a father’s protection. No predetermined path. Just the courage of hard work and the desire to learn something new every day,” he said.
Drawing a parallel with the young workforce at his group’s project sites, Adani said millions of young Indians living away from their families are working towards securing their own futures while also contributing to the country’s growth.
“Today, in those millions of young people, I see my own story — those who are far from home, far from loved ones, but are shaping their future and India’s future with the sweat of their brow,” he added.
Adani’s remarks were shared as part of the second episode of “My Words, With My Loved Ones”, a series in which he reflects on personal memories, experiences and lessons from his life.
