The Quad countries are aligned on strengthening cooperation and delivering tangible outcomes towards a free and open Indo-Pacific, US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor said on Thursday after meeting his Australian and Japanese counterparts in New Delhi.
Gor met Australian High Commissioner to India Philip Green and Japanese Ambassador to India Keiichi Ono to discuss upcoming Quad initiatives and meetings.
“Together with India, our four nations are aligned in advancing closer collaboration and delivering results for a free and open Indo-Pacific,” Gor said in a post on X following the meeting.
The Quad brings together India, Australia, Japan and the United States, with the four countries working towards an open, free and inclusive Indo-Pacific that is prosperous and resilient.
The meeting comes after the Quad Foreign Ministers’ Meeting held in Manila last month, attended by External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong, Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
In their joint statement, the ministers reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening a free and open Indo-Pacific and reiterated support for ASEAN unity and centrality. They also emphasised the Quad’s commitment to regional prosperity and closer cooperation with ASEAN and its member states.
The ministers discussed regional challenges and ways to support the practical implementation of the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific through shared priorities, including maritime and transnational security, economic prosperity and security, critical and emerging technologies, and humanitarian assistance and emergency response.
The Quad members also stressed that peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific’s maritime domain are fundamental to the region’s security and prosperity.
