Congress MP from Amritsar Gurjeet Singh Aujla has urged Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to introduce a daily Vande Bharat Sleeper Train between Sri Amritsar Sahib and Takht Sachkhand Sri Hazur Sahib in Nanded, citing the long-pending demand of Sikh devotees.
In a letter to the Railway Minister, Aujla said the proposal was not merely about improving rail connectivity but was closely linked to the religious sentiments of millions of Sikhs. He said he had received numerous representations from Sikh jathas, saints, Gurdwara management committees, religious organisations and devotees seeking a faster, more comfortable sleeper train on the Amritsar–Nanded route.
The MP pointed out that Sri Harmandir Sahib in Amritsar and Takht Sachkhand Sri Hazur Sahib in Nanded are among Sikhism’s holiest pilgrimage sites, attracting lakhs of devotees every year from Punjab and other parts of the country. He said the growing number of pilgrims has increased pressure on existing train services, making the need for a modern sleeper train more urgent.
Aujla requested the Railways to introduce the daily Vande Bharat Sleeper service at the earliest. He also urged that the train’s arrival and departure timings be scheduled during the daytime or evening, instead of late-night or early-morning hours, to ensure greater convenience for devotees, senior citizens and families.
Expressing hope for a favourable decision, Aujla said improved rail connectivity between the two sacred Sikh shrines would greatly benefit pilgrims.
