Moga Grenade Attack Case: Police Arrest 17, Recover IED Allegedly Meant for Ferozepur-Jammu Train

Chandigarh/Moga, July 21, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Punjab Police on Tuesday claimed to have foiled an alleged terror conspiracy with the arrest of 17 persons, including the three alleged executors of the July 8 grenade attack on Police Station Sadar Moga, and the recovery of an Improvised Explosive Device (IED), explosive material, an electronic detonator and a 9mm Glock pistol.

Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said the operation marked a significant breakthrough in the investigation into the low-intensity grenade attack carried out at the police station in the early hours of July 8, when unidentified assailants allegedly hurled a grenade at the building around 3.15 am.

Police also impounded the Splendor motorcycle (PB-03-AH-3088) allegedly used in executing the attack.

Three Alleged Executors Identified

According to the police, the three alleged executors have been identified as Gagan alias Kali of Dheru (Ferozepur), Rajesh alias Khanna of Lal Kurti Cantonment (Ferozepur) and Shubham alias Bhinder of Kotwal (Ferozepur).

The remaining 14 arrested persons have been accused of providing logistical support, facilitating communication, expanding the network and harbouring the alleged operatives.

They have been identified as Lajjar alias Aman and his wife Parveen Kaur of Sia Paadi (Ferozepur); Swaran and Gobind of Kotwal; Sagar and John of Lal Kurti Cantonment; Ruth, Raj and Sarabjit Kaur of Talwandi Nepala; Gurpreet Singh, Rahul and Karandeep Singh of Ajitwal (Moga); Lovepreet of Dheru; and Sukhwinder Kaur of Sherkhan (Ferozepur).

UK-Based Man Named as Alleged Mastermind

DGP Gaurav Yadav alleged that preliminary investigations had identified Iqbal Singh alias Ravi Dhaliwal, currently based in the United Kingdom, as the alleged mastermind behind the conspiracy.

According to the DGP, the accused were allegedly acting on Dhaliwal’s directions when they carried out the grenade attack on Police Station Sadar Moga.

He further alleged that the group was planning to plant an IED on a train operating between Ferozepur and Jammu.

IED Allegedly Intended for Train

Inspector General of Police (IGP), Faridkot Range, Nilambari Jagdale said that following the grenade attack, multiple police teams were deployed to identify and apprehend those involved.

She said technical surveillance and human intelligence led investigators to the alleged executors, whose arrests subsequently helped police uncover the wider network.

Jagdale alleged that Lajjar alias Aman and Parveen Kaur were in direct contact with the UK-based accused and were assisting in recruiting operatives for the module.

She further stated that the recovered IED was allegedly intended to be planted on a train travelling from Ferozepur to Jammu.

More Arrests Likely

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Moga, Sartaj Singh Chahal said the interrogation of the arrested accused led to the identification and arrest of 12 additional persons accused of providing logistical support and shelter to the module members.

He added that further investigation is continuing and that more arrests and recoveries are likely in the coming days.

Case Registered Under BNS, Explosives Act and UAPA

Police said the case was initially registered as FIR No. 126 dated July 8, 2026, at Police Station Sadar Moga under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Explosive Substances Act, and the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act.

Subsequently, additional provisions of the BNS, the Explosive Substances Act, and multiple sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) have also been invoked as the investigation progressed.
