Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters on Sunday warned that the United States and certain Middle Eastern countries could face “painful” strikes if they take what Tehran considers hostile action against Iran.
In a statement carried by Iranian media, the country’s main military command said it had intelligence indicating that Washington had decided at a recent meeting in Europe to resume actions against Tehran with the backing of certain regional countries.
The headquarters warned that any US military action against Iran would result in Iranian strikes against American bases and interests across the region. It said such attacks would be “continuous, effective and painful”, without limitation or reservation.
Iran also warned regional countries against what it described as a double-standard policy and alignment with US “aggression”. It said countries supporting such actions should not expect continued restraint from Iran’s armed forces.
The warning followed reports of a meeting in Germany involving senior military commanders from the United States, Israel and several Arab countries, including Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Jordan and Egypt, to discuss the conflict with Iran and wider regional tensions.
US news outlet Axios, citing two Israeli officials, reported on Tuesday that US Central Command chief Brad Cooper had convened the meeting and reassured participants that the US military would remain in the region despite Iranian attacks on American bases. According to the report, Cooper also briefed the participants on plans to expand shipping activity in the Strait of Hormuz.
Meanwhile, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf said on Sunday that there would be no return to the previous framework of negotiations on ending the regional war or reopening the Strait of Hormuz unless Washington met Tehran’s conditions.
Qalibaf said Iran expected the United States to recognise what Tehran described as the Iranian nation’s “legitimate” rights and fulfil its obligations. He added that Iran’s conditions had been conveyed to Washington through mediators.
The latest statements come amid heightened tensions involving Iran, the United States and regional countries, with the Strait of Hormuz remaining a key point of concern for regional security and international shipping.
