Greater Noida, September 20, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday criticised former Vice President Mohammad Hamid Ansari and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, alleging that their recent conduct and remarks were inconsistent with the dignity of their positions and could undermine India’s cultural values.

Addressing the closing ceremony of the ‘Utkarsh Nari Samman, Yuva Swabhiman’ programme in Greater Noida, Adityanath said attempts were being made to “malign” India’s culture and create what he described as an “identity crisis” for the country.

His remarks came after Ansari recently cited a statement attributed to former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru concerning what Nehru had described as the perceived threat from “Hindu right-wing communalism”.

Calling Ansari’s remarks “unfortunate” and “scary” for India’s cultural and traditional values, Adityanath said people holding constitutional positions were expected to uphold the dignity of their offices and contribute to the country’s sovereignty and integrity.

The Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister alleged that Ansari’s comments were part of an attempt by what he described as “anti-India forces” to damage the country’s reputation internationally. He also accused Ansari of insulting the Hindu Sanatan tradition by linking it with terrorism.

Adityanath said individuals could hold personal views, but those occupying high constitutional offices had a greater responsibility to respect the principles and framework of the Constitution.

The Chief Minister also targeted Rahul Gandhi over the ‘Chhatron Ki Goonj’ event in Indore, where a political controversy erupted after a comedian allegedly mocked Prime Minister Narendra Modi while sharing the stage with the Congress leader.

Describing the incident as “uncivilised behaviour”, Adityanath said India’s cultural traditions teach respect for women, elders and persons with disabilities.

He said those who do not follow such values could not be expected to understand the principle of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ — the belief that the world is one family — or the importance of respecting women.

Adityanath further alleged that such conduct was aimed at creating confusion and disorder and could demean India and undermine women’s dignity.

He also asserted that Sanatan Dharma does not promote bigotry or communalism, saying its followers have historically provided refuge to people facing crises, for which, he claimed, several countries continue to remain grateful to India.
