New Delhi, September 20, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Sunday clarified that notices issued to certain Delhi voters as part of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls do not mean that their names will be deleted from the voter list.

The clarification came after claims circulated on social media and in sections of the media suggesting that the notices amounted to the deletion of voters from the electoral rolls.

The Commission said system-generated notices are being issued to certain categories of electors whose names appear in the Draft Electoral Rolls, primarily to address data-related issues in ECINET.

According to the ECI, notices have been issued to voters whose names could not be linked with the electoral roll of the last Intensive Revision, as well as those for whom logical discrepancies were found in such linking.

The Commission stressed that no elector’s name can be deleted without providing an opportunity of being heard and passing a proper, speaking and appealable order.

“All stakeholders are hereby informed that the issuance of notice does not mean that their names will be deleted from the electoral rolls of NCT of Delhi,” the ECI said.

Voters receiving notices can submit their replies and requisite documents to the concerned Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) or Booth Level Officer (BLO). The ECI said the list of documents prescribed for the process is indicative and not exhaustive, and that EROs will take the final decision based on available documents and the BLO’s report.

The Commission said the disposal of notices would be completed by November 29 under the SIR 2026 schedule, while the Final Electoral Roll is scheduled to be published on November 4.

The ECI said lists of electors who have received notices are available on the websites of the Chief Electoral Officer, Delhi, District Election Officers and Voter Centres.

The notices have reportedly been issued to nearly 32 lakh voters. Among prominent names appearing in the draft electoral roll who have reportedly received notices over discrepancies are Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, former Deputy Prime Minister L.K. Advani, BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj, former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia.

Others reportedly issued notices include Congress MP Abhishek Singhvi, former Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, former Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi and former Election Commissioner S.S. Sandhu.
