Singer-songwriter Miley Cyrus has opened up about her close bond with her late godmother, music legend Dolly Parton, while recalling one touring habit of the iconic singer that she could never quite understand.
Miley, 33, said she was always puzzled by Parton’s insistence on having a bathtub installed in her tour bus. Speaking to Zane Lowe on Apple Music, she wondered when Parton would actually use it while travelling between venues.
“Dolly had the bathtub. I’m always like, ‘When are you taking the bath?’ In the parking lot or on the freeway?” Miley recalled, adding that she never understood why Parton would choose a bathtub on the bus when a hotel was available.
Lowe jokingly defended the arrangement, suggesting that “the bath in the bus is serious”, while Miley acknowledged that the two had very different approaches to life on the road.
Miley has also spoken emotionally about her final conversation with Parton, recalling that they discussed her new record. She said their differences were part of what made their relationship special and described Parton as someone whose authenticity went beyond her glamorous public persona.
“She’s known for, I guess, the faux, the fake, the hair, the makeup, the show of it, but there’s a part of her that’s just what I think everyone gravitates toward, how real she is and how authentic she is,” Miley said.
The three-time Grammy winner credited Parton with helping her understand how a person could maintain a public persona while remaining true to themselves.
Parton also had a unique connection to Miley’s hit television series Hannah Montana, where she appeared as Aunt Dolly, the fictional godmother of Miley Stewart, mirroring elements of their real-life relationship.
Miley recalled telling Parton that she “always” cried while performing live. According to Miley, the country music icon encouraged her to embrace that emotional side rather than hide it.
Miley has previously spoken about the deep impact of Parton’s guidance on her personal and professional life, describing their relationship as an important part of her journey through fame and performance.
