Actress Sharvari Wagh has recalled growing up watching iconic Rajshri songs such as Maiya Yashoda and Didi Tera Devar Deewana, and said working with filmmaker Sooraj Barjatya gave her a new perspective on how such memorable sequences are created.
Sharvari, who will star alongside Ayushmann Khurrana in Barjatya’s upcoming film Yeh Prem Mol Liya, was speaking at the launch of one of the film’s songs when she reflected on the experience.
Calling it a “really grateful and blessed” experience, Sharvari revealed that Barjatya would share stories from the making of his earlier iconic songs while they were filming the musical sequences for the new film.
“Whenever we used to shoot songs, Sooraj sir used to tell me stories of their shooting times during songs of Maiya Yashoda and Didi Tera Devar Deewana,” she said, adding that it was particularly special because she had watched the songs since childhood and had always felt a strong connection with them.
Sharvari said Barjatya also shared behind-the-scenes details from those shoots, some of which she tried to incorporate into her own performance.
“Sooraj sir told me some inside information and then I was trying to apply it,” she said.
The actress said the experience also helped her understand that Rajshri’s songs are about much more than choreography. According to Sharvari, the emotional dynamics within a family, the relationships between characters and the progression of the narrative are all carefully woven into the musical sequences.
She said this was the first time she had experienced so closely how a song could move the film and its story forward, describing it as a “very special experience”.
Yeh Prem Mol Liya, starring Sharvari Wagh and Ayushmann Khurrana, is scheduled to release on November 27.
