A Gujarat 108 emergency medical team assisted in the delivery of two babies after a woman carrying triplets gave birth to her first child before an ambulance reached her home in Rohishala village of Tankara taluka in Rajkot district on Saturday night.
The Paddhari 108 team received the emergency call at 8:48 p.m. on September 19. Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Jignasha Luhar and ambulance pilot Sureshbhai immediately proceeded towards Rohishala.
By the time the ambulance reached the woman’s residence, she had already delivered the first of the three babies. With two more deliveries to be managed, Luhar assessed the situation and used her emergency medical training to assist with the births.
According to the 108 team, all three newborns were boys.
During the emergency, the woman’s condition and other details were communicated over the phone to Emergency Response Coordination Physician (ERCP) Dr Jotsna. Acting on the doctor’s guidance, the team provided the required care and continued monitoring the mother and newborns.
After all three babies were delivered, Luhar ensured that the mother and newborns received immediate attention before they were transported to Janana Hospital.
The mother and all three babies were subsequently handed over safely to the hospital’s medical team for further treatment and observation.
The 108 team said triplet deliveries can present additional challenges compared with routine childbirth and require careful management. In this case, the emergency personnel had to manage two deliveries at the residence after the first baby had already been born.
The team acknowledged the support of ambulance pilot Sureshbhai and the medical guidance provided by Dr Jotsna during the emergency.
