Greater Noida Authority Books Contractor After 6-Year-Old Dies in Water-Filled Pit

New Delhi, July 26, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

The Greater Noida Authority has lodged an FIR against a contractor and two site supervisors and terminated their services following the death of a six-year-old boy who fell into a water-filled pit at Kala Dham Society in the Knowledge Park area of Greater Noida.

According to the Authority, the FIR has been registered against contractor Manoj Jain, supervisor Johnny and technical supervisor Akash. Preliminary findings indicate that the borewell installation site was shifted without the Authority’s approval, and the excavation was carried out at the unauthorised location where the fatal accident occurred.

Greater Noida Authority General Manager A.K. Singh termed the incident “deeply tragic” and said the Authority had approved installation of a tube well to address the society’s water supply issue. He said the borewell was originally planned at a different location, but the contractor allegedly changed the site without permission.

The victim, identified as six-year-old Avyaan Surya, son of Kendriya Vidyalaya Vice Principal Siwan Yadav, reportedly fell into the nearly 15-foot-deep pit while playing with other children. The excavation, dug for borewell work, had filled with rainwater following recent showers.

Residents rescued the child and rushed him to a nearby hospital, where he was declared dead. His body has been sent for post-mortem examination.

The incident has sparked outrage among residents, who alleged that the excavation site lacked proper barricading, warning signs and other safety measures. Police have launched an investigation, while residents have demanded strict action against those responsible and stronger enforcement of safety norms at construction and infrastructure sites.
