The Delhi Police have arrested eight people in connection with the murder of Md. Irshad Alam alias Guddu Badshah, who was shot dead in Delhi’s Pul Prahladpur in July, following an interstate investigation spanning nearly 12,000 km across Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Telangana and Tamil Nadu.
According to police, the accused attempted to evade arrest by switching off their mobile phones, changing locations and communicating through internet-based platforms and hotspots. Technical surveillance, field intelligence, CCTV footage and electronic evidence eventually helped investigators trace and apprehend them.
Police received information about a firing incident at D-29, Chungi No. 3, Lal Kuan, on July 28. On reaching the spot, officers found Guddu Badshah dead, while Md. Farukh was injured with a firearm wound. Crime Team and FSL personnel inspected the scene and recovered blood-stained exhibits, empty and live cartridges and metallic projectiles.
Farukh initially presented himself as an injured victim. However, inconsistencies emerged during questioning and analysis of call records, technical surveillance and other evidence. His alleged involvement in the conspiracy subsequently surfaced, leading to his arrest on July 28.
The investigation revealed that the alleged murder stemmed from an old rivalry between Guddu Badshah and accused Shamshad and Ashafak, dating back to their native area in Bihar’s Supaul. Police said the accused lured Guddu from Bihar to Delhi on the pretext of settling the dispute and used the purported settlement meeting as a trap.
He was allegedly taken to a rented premises or warehouse in Lal Kuan, where he was shot dead.
The arrested accused have been identified as Md. Farukh (27), Md. Aftab, Md. Irfan (23), Md. Shamshad (28), Md. Ashafak (23), Md. Rahmatullah alias Chhotu (22), Aman Yadav (25) and Md. Shoib Akhtar. They are residents of Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.
Police said Shamshad and Ashafak have criminal antecedents, including involvement in a murder case registered in Supaul.
According to investigators, Farukh gained Guddu’s confidence, brought him to the rented premises and coordinated with the other accused before allegedly attempting to mislead investigators by portraying himself as an innocent victim.
Aftab allegedly coordinated the movement and assembly of the execution team. He was traced to Tiruppur in Tamil Nadu and apprehended with the assistance of local police.
Irfan allegedly provided shelter and logistical support after the offence and concealed illegal arms and ammunition. Based on his disclosure, police recovered an illegal pistol, an extra magazine and live cartridges.
Shamshad and Ashafak allegedly remained in communication with the other conspirators and participated in planning and coordination. Police said Shamshad used internet-based communication platforms to stay in contact with the co-accused.
Rahmatullah alias Chhotu allegedly participated in the execution of the assault and later assisted in concealing or removing material evidence. Shoaib Akhtar allegedly accompanied members of the execution team during their movement from Tamil Nadu to Delhi and subsequently remained associated with the co-accused.
Aman Yadav allegedly arranged accommodation and logistical support near Lal Kuan and later joined the conspiracy after being offered financial consideration. Police said he accompanied Aftab, Rahmatullah and Shoaib on his motorcycle on the night of the incident and participated in the firing.
Police said efforts are continuing to recover additional illegal firearms and other case property allegedly concealed by Yadav and Farukh. The recovered weapons and ammunition are being subjected to forensic and ballistic examination to determine their possible connection with the crime.
The investigation involved coordinated raids at multiple locations across the five states. Police examined CCTV footage and other electronic evidence, with assistance from the Crime Team and FSL.
The investigation so far indicates a pre-planned murder carried out pursuant to an alleged criminal conspiracy, police said. Investigators are examining the respective roles of the accused in gaining the deceased’s confidence, bringing him to the target location, arranging accommodation and transportation, coordinating the group, arranging or concealing firearms and allegedly attempting to destroy or conceal evidence.
All eight accused have been produced before the court. Further investigation is underway.
