Megastar Amitabh Bachchan recently recalled a warm and amusing interaction with legendary singer Kishore Kumar, remembering the late artiste’s generous nature, love for video cassettes and a humorous phone conversation in which he mistook Bachchan for his son, singer Amit Kumar.
Speaking on an upcoming episode of a reality show, Bachchan recalled meeting Kishore Kumar several times and described him as a “very, very generous” and warm-hearted person. He also remembered being invited to the singer’s home, where Kishore Kumar proudly showed him his extensive collection of video cassettes.
Bachchan said Kishore Kumar had a particular fascination with collecting video cassettes from around the world. He also recalled a light-hearted telephone conversation in which he introduced himself by saying, “Main Amit bol raha hoon” (This is Amit speaking). Kishore Kumar apparently assumed that the caller was his son Amit Kumar.
Contestant Virendra Jaiswal, who comes from Khandwa, Kishore Kumar’s birthplace, also spoke about the deep connection between the legendary artiste and the city.
Jaiswal said Kishore Kumar’s songs remain deeply embedded in the memories of people in Khandwa. He recalled that the singer’s August 4 birthday is celebrated across the city, with karaoke performances and tributes taking place at various locations.
According to Jaiswal, Kishore Kumar’s influence is so deeply rooted in Khandwa that residents affectionately associate his name with the city and celebrate his legacy every year.
Kishore Kumar was a multi-talented artiste who worked as a playback singer, actor, composer, lyricist and filmmaker during a career spanning nearly four decades.
He remains one of Hindi cinema’s most celebrated voices, remembered for iconic songs such as “Chala Jaata Hoon”, “Neele Neele Ambar Par”, “Mere Sapnon Ki Rani” and “Mere Saamne Wali Khidki”.
