Music composer Akhil Sachdeva has revealed that actor Emraan Hashmi personally approached him to compose ‘Piya Ghar Aaya – Homecoming’ for the recently released ‘Awarapan 2’, asking him to explore a sound different from his usual work.
Speaking to IANS after the film’s release, Sachdeva said Hashmi gave him complete creative freedom while making the song and encouraged him to follow his instincts.
“Emraan Hashmi himself called me for the song and he wanted me to make a very different song from what I have usually done,” Sachdeva said.
He added that Hashmi specifically wanted something other than a conventional love or heartbreak track. Sachdeva said he experimented with the composition without feeling pressure, although he remained conscious of the legacy and musical standards associated with the original ‘Awarapan’.
The composer said Hashmi encouraged him to write according to his “gut feeling”, which led him to incorporate Punjabi words into the song’s lyrics — something he said was not part of the music of the first film.
Sachdeva acknowledged that the creative decision attracted criticism, including abuse over his use of Punjabi words. However, he said several people who initially criticised the song later contacted him after watching the film and apologised for their earlier reactions.
“I think criticism is definitely what we were expecting. I was very on for criticism,” he said, adding that people had messaged him on Instagram to say they had initially misunderstood the song.
Sachdeva described the response as part of the creative process and said the track ultimately reflected his decision to follow his instincts.
“The song is all about Emraan bhai,” he said, expressing satisfaction with the final result.
He also acknowledged the established legacy of songs such as ‘Tera Mera Rishta’ and ‘Toh Phir Aao’ from the first ‘Awarapan’, while noting that ‘Piya Ghar Aaya – Homecoming’ is among the new songs from the sequel that has attracted attention.
