Shiromani Akali Dal Punar Surjit has appointed Harvel Singh Madhopur as president of the party’s Scheduled Caste (SC) Wing, General Secretary Gurpratap Singh Wadala said on Sunday.
The appointment was made in accordance with the directions of party president Giani Harpreet Singh.
Announcing the decision, Wadala described Madhopur as an educated, honest and hardworking individual with extensive experience in education and administration. Madhopur holds M.A., B.Ed. and LL.B. degrees and is a retired District Education Officer (Secondary). He has also served as principal at several educational institutions.
Madhopur has previously served as general secretary of a teachers’ union as well as the Bharatiya Minority and Dalit Front. He is also associated with several social organisations and continues to undertake social activities alongside his association with the Shiromani Akali Dal Punar Surjit.
Wadala said the party had taken into account Madhopur’s services, commitment and “fighting spirit” while assigning him the responsibility of heading the SC Wing.
The newly appointed office-bearer has also been directed to strengthen the party’s SC Wing and establish its organisational structure at the district level at the earliest.
The appointment was communicated to the media by party media in-charge Tajinder Singh Pannu.
