Bengal STF arrests second associate of Pakistani national with alleged ISI links

Kolkata, August 17, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

The Special Task Force (STF) of the West Bengal Police has arrested another alleged associate of Pakistani national Wahab Alam, who was arrested earlier this month in North 24 Parganas district for his suspected links with Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), officials said on Monday.

The arrested accused has been identified as Imran Hosain, a resident of Topsia in east Kolkata. A senior state police official confirmed that Hosain was arrested from his residence but did not disclose when the arrest took place.

Hosain is the third person arrested in the case, following Alam and Mohammad Izaz, who was earlier arrested from his residence in Topsia.

According to the investigation, Alam allegedly entered West Bengal illegally through Nepal in 2012 and stayed at Izaz’s residence. Izaz is accused of helping him obtain Indian identity documents, which allegedly enabled the Pakistani national to establish himself in the state under a forged identity.

Investigators suspect that Hosain also played a role in helping Alam remain in West Bengal using forged documents and allegedly facilitating activities assigned to him by the ISI.

The STF reportedly gathered information about Hosain after separately questioning Alam and Izaz and subsequently confronting them together. Investigators are now questioning Hosain to determine the extent of his alleged involvement and identify any other associates who may have links to activities affecting national security.

The development comes days after the STF arrested three Indian citizens from Sahebganj in Cooch Behar district, along the India-Bangladesh border, on August 14 night for their suspected links to Pakistani espionage activities. They were identified as Rashidul Haque, Nur Nasiruddin Ali and Shafiqul Islam.

Meanwhile, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has begun collecting information on Alam after the preliminary STF probe indicated his alleged links with the ISI. The NIA has contacted the Bengal STF to obtain details of the investigation and evidence gathered so far.

The agency is expected to question Alam and Izaz and may also interrogate Hosain and the three accused arrested in Cooch Behar, if required.
