Several food business operators (FBOs) have taken corrective measures after receiving notices from the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) over misleading claims, non-standardised products and labelling violations, the food regulator said on Sunday.
According to FSSAI, the actions taken by the companies include withdrawing misleading claims, changing product names, revising packaging and labels, delisting products and discontinuing the manufacture of non-standardised products.
Honest Innovations For You Private Limited and Heliostone Specialities Private Limited were among the FBOs found using misleading trademarks. Both companies changed their product names after receiving notices from FSSAI.
Rajasthan Agro and General Industries also faced action over a misleading trademark. The company removed the misleading claims and stopped using the term “ppm” in its product-related communication following the regulator’s notice.
In another case, FSSAI flagged Iota Nanotechnology Private Limited over non-standardised products. The company removed misleading claims from the product label and stopped manufacturing non-standardised water.
Panchamrutha Industries Private Limited was issued a notice concerning an electrolyte drink. Following the notice, the company removed the product from its website.
FSSAI also highlighted corrective measures taken by Livyor Ventures Private Limited over the use of “vegan” and “healthy” claims on the label of its “Livyor Roasted Edamame Beans”.
The company said the claims had been printed on the packaging inadvertently due to a lack of awareness about applicable regulatory requirements. It apologised for the violation and assured FSSAI that such non-compliance would not be repeated.
The company has submitted a corrected label and said it would destroy existing packaging material carrying the non-compliant claims. It has also begun revising its product labels to prevent the use of misleading claims in future.
FSSAI said the corrective actions followed notices issued to the concerned FBOs and were aimed at ensuring consumer safety and regulatory compliance.
