Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan has expressed deep grief over the death of three pilgrims from Kotkapura who were carrying Kanwars when they met with a tragic road accident near Sirhind on Saturday night.
Four pilgrims from Kotkapura in Faridkot district were involved in the accident, of whom three lost their lives while another sustained injuries.
Expressing condolences to the bereaved families, Sandhwan said the Punjab government stood firmly with them during this difficult time. He announced financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh each to the families of the three deceased from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
He further said the injured pilgrim would receive free treatment at the expense of the Punjab government and that all necessary medical assistance would be provided.
Sandhwan described the loss of three precious lives as deeply painful and prayed for eternal peace for the departed souls and strength for their families to bear the irreparable loss. He also wished the injured pilgrim a speedy recovery.
The Speaker assured the affected families that the state government would extend all possible assistance and that no shortage of medical care would be allowed in the treatment of the injured person.
He also appealed to people participating in Kanwar Yatras to strictly follow road safety rules and give priority to their own safety as well as that of other road users.
Fatehgarh Sahib MLA Advocate Lakhbir Singh Rai, SSP Shubham Aggarwal and other public representatives and officials were also present on the occasion.
