Chandigarh, February 20 (Yes Punjab News)
Senior Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leaders Paramjit Singh Sarna and Manjit Singh GK today said the so called Panthic Convention attended by Giani Harpreet Singh at the instance of the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) was part of a conspiracy to damage the SAD, Shiromani Committee and the Sri Akal Takht at the behest of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
The senior leaders, who held a press conference here on this issue, said the purpose of such conclaves was to weaken the SAD and reduce its bargaining power before the BJP decided to form any alliance with it.
They said the BJP had been wooing Jathedars of the Sikh Panth since long with this purpose in mind and that Giani Harpreet Singh was now towing the BJP’s line to make this plan a success.
Both Mr Paramjit Sarna and Mr Manjit GK also gave details of a meeting held between them and Giani Harpreet Singh to prove that the latter had been working as a stooge of the BJP all along.
The leaders said Giani Harpreet had called five former presidents of the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee with regard to a complaint regarding selling off a DSGMC school for Rs 500 crore at the instance of GK.
They said when it came to light that the GK’s signatures had been forged and that Delhi leader Manjinder Singh Sirsa had misused the letter the Jathedar promised to take prompt action by forming a three member committee.
“However because Sirsa was involved the three member committee was never formed and the corruption case was not probed. Even now Giani Harpreet was the first to present a siropa to Sirsa after the latter’s win in Delhi even though he was not allowed to stand in front of the ‘faseel’ of Sri Akal Takht on December 2 as he is a ‘patit’ Sikh”, the leaders said.
Mr Paramjit Sarna also related an instance of how Giani Harpreet Singh had called him to Sri Akal Takht and asked him to resign as president of his Akali faction. He said Giani Harpreet told him that he was asking others also to resign so that he could run the unified Akali Dal as its president.
“The then Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht also told me that he enjoyed the confidence of the top brass of the BJP and that he would form an alliance with the BJP also”. Mr Sarna said he was ready to hold a live debate with Giani Harpreet on this issue at any time according to the latter’s convenience.
Meanwhile both leaders condemned the so-called Panthik Conference organized by the Delhi Committee yesterday. They said as there were no takers for the Conference DSGMC staff were forced to attend it.
“No panthic issue including the status of NSA detainees and the Bandi Singhs who the central government had promised to free in 2019 were discussed. Nor was the mistreatment of Sikh youth deported from the United States or the undue government interference in running the management of Takth Hazur Sahib and Patna Sahib”.
