Actor couple Gurmeet Choudhary and Debinna Bonnerjee celebrated Ganesh Chaturthi with their family on Monday, saying that good health remains their biggest wish this festive season, ahead of material possessions and professional success.
In an exclusive conversation with IANS, the couple spoke about their faith, family traditions and the significance of Ganpati in their lives.
Gurmeet said health is the foundation of everything else in life.
“First of all, we feel personal health. If the health is good, everything else is good. But if the health is not good, then nothing is good,” he said.
Debinna echoed his views, saying that expensive possessions, a good home or even relationships lose their importance when one does not have good health.
She described health as “the real flex”, saying that being able to wake up early to jog, exercise at the age of 40, climb stairs, play with children and participate in sports are greater achievements than material possessions.
“If there is health, then everything is there. And of course, we have always had the blessings of our Bappa,” Gurmeet said.
For the couple, Ganpati is also a time to reflect on their journey and pass on family traditions to their children. Debinna said they grew up watching their families celebrate festivals with faith and emotion and are now teaching the same values to their children.
Gurmeet described the annual arrival of Ganpati as a reminder to keep moving forward through life’s journey.
The celebrations at home also included traditional food. Debinna revealed that she prepared a special motichoor ladoo-inspired modak, combining the traditional festive sweet with Gurmeet’s fondness for motichoor ladoos. The family’s Bengali-style bhog included khichdi, cabbage curry, puri and dum aloo.
The couple also extended their wishes to fans, praying for their health, progress and togetherness.
Meanwhile, Gurmeet took to social media on Ganesh Chaturthi to share pictures of himself seeking Bappa’s blessings and hinted at his return to the big screen with a new project.
“Once a boy from a small town in Bihar, with a dream bigger than his world. Today, that boy stands at the doorstep of another dream. With Bappa’s blessings, your small-town Bihari boy is returning to the big screen, with something new,” he wrote.
He added that while his journey and responsibilities have changed, his dream remains unchanged, and sought Bappa’s blessings for everything that lies ahead.
