Amit Shah, Mandaviya and CMs Hail India’s Historic Eighth Women’s Asia Cup Triumph

Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya and several political leaders congratulated the Indian women’s cricket team after it clinched a record-extending eighth Women’s Asia Cup title by defeating Sri Lanka by 72 runs in the final in Dubai.

Shah hailed Harmanpreet Kaur-led India for its dominant campaign and said the victory had thrilled the nation.

“India sets another milestone in Asian cricket. Heartiest congratulations to our champions on clinching the 8th Women’s Asia Cup title. You have thrilled the nation with your undisputed dominance throughout the tournament and paved the path of inspiration for millions,” Shah said in a post on X.

Mandaviya shared a video of the final wicket, taken by Deepti Sharma as Sri Lanka were bowled out for 111, and celebrated India’s comprehensive victory.

“Champions of Asia!” he wrote.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath described the triumph as “historic, unprecedented, extraordinary” and congratulated every member of the Indian team.

He said the victory would enhance India’s pride while giving “new wings to the dreams of millions of daughters” and strengthening their resolve. “You all are India’s pride. Jai Hind,” Adityanath added.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis also praised the team, calling its eighth title a historic achievement.

“The Women in Blue have conquered Asia! Team India is now the Women’s Asia Cup 2026 Champion. A historic eighth title. One more magnificent chapter in Indian cricket!” Fadnavis wrote on X, also praising the performances of Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana in the final.

BCCI Vice-President Rajeev Shukla had earlier congratulated the team for remaining unbeaten throughout the tournament.

“What a performance by our Women in Blue! Undefeated throughout the tournament and now Asia Cup champions for the 8th time! Every player stepped up when required. A complete team effort and a proud moment for Indian cricket. Well played, Team India!” he said.

India set up the victory by posting 183/5, with Shafali scoring 68 and Mandhana 59 in a record 129-run opening partnership. Shree Charani then claimed four wickets and Deepti Sharma three as Sri Lanka were dismissed for 111, handing India a 72-run win.
