Unidentified men opened fire outside three houses in Northeast Delhi’s Nand Nagri area and vandalised vehicles parked nearby, triggering panic among residents, officials said on Saturday.
The incident took place late Friday night in D-2 Block under the Nand Nagri police station area. According to officials, the unidentified assailants opened indiscriminate fire at the three houses and also pelted stones. The families inside the homes narrowly escaped injury.
A video purportedly showing the incident surfaced, with masked individuals seen allegedly firing and throwing stones.
A local resident told IANS that around 50 masked people attacked her house and alleged that her family had been facing threats and repeated attacks for several years.
“We know who these people are. A dispute arose seven years ago regarding my daughter. Since then, there has been frequent firing and stone pelting outside my house. My sons have been beaten up. We are threatened with false cases. I am also told that they’ll shoot my children,” the woman alleged.
She said three houses were targeted on Friday night and added that the families were upstairs when the attack occurred.
“If we hadn’t been upstairs, someone could have lost their lives. Our children are in constant danger,” she alleged.
Police were informed about the incident and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the firing and vandalism. The identities and motive of the attackers have not yet been established.
In a separate incident in Northeast Delhi’s Gokalpuri area on Friday, a 32-year-old man, identified as Neeraj, allegedly shot a woman before turning the revolver on himself. Neeraj died at the spot, while the woman, Rajwati, a neighbour, was seriously injured.
Police found Neeraj’s body in a room on the first floor of the house, with the revolver lying nearby. Preliminary investigation indicated that the firearm’s licence was registered in his father’s name.
A forensic team examined the scene and collected evidence as part of the investigation.
