Punjab Jails and NRI Affairs Minister Dr Ravjot Singh on Friday felicitated more than 1,100 Satkar Sakhis from the Sham Churasi Assembly constituency for their contribution towards taking the ‘Mukh Mantri Maawan-Dhiyan Satkaar Yojana’ to women at the grassroots level.
Addressing a special function organised to honour the Satkar Sakhis, Dr Ravjot Singh said they had played a significant role in ensuring that lakhs of women were made aware of the scheme and were able to access its benefits.
He said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Punjab Government was providing financial assistance to women while also creating opportunities for them to become self-reliant and earn greater respect in society.
Describing the ‘Mukh Mantri Maawan-Dhiyan Satkaar Yojana’ as an ambitious initiative, the Minister said more than 75 lakh women across Punjab had received financial assistance under the scheme on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan.
Dr Ravjot Singh said the Satkar Sakhis had worked at the grassroots level to inform women about the scheme, identify eligible beneficiaries, encourage them to register and facilitate their access to the government assistance.
He said their role extended beyond creating awareness about the scheme, as they served as an important link between women and their rights as well as various government welfare services.
The Minister said the Punjab Government was committed to ensuring the dignity, safety and empowerment of women and to making every woman aware of her rights so that she could become economically and socially stronger.
Dr Ravjot Singh also expressed gratitude to all the Satkar Sakhis for their efforts and valuable contribution towards the implementation of the scheme.
Women Wing In-charge Rajwant Kaur Dhami, Parwinder Singh Sajjan, Lovedeep Singh Gill, Kamal Dhoot, Sarpanch Ravinder Kaur, Sarpanch Meena Rani, Kanchan Deol and other prominent persons were also present.
