Paytm Founder and CEO Vijay Shekhar Sharma on Friday said India’s digital payment ecosystem is among the most advanced in the world, describing the country’s financial and technological capabilities as a key contribution to BRICS.
Speaking to IANS on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit 2026 in New Delhi, Sharma said the summit was being held at a time when India had demonstrated its capabilities as a self-reliant and self-dependent nation.
“Be it our payment system, financial services, AI capability or technology, our country has created is a contribution towards BRICS from our side,” he said.
Sharma said Prime Minister Narendra Modi had spent the past decade pursuing the mission of making India self-reliant, adding that entrepreneurs and businesses had contributed to this effort by treating it as an opportunity.
“Today, the country’s payment system is among the most advanced in the world,” he said.
Vamsi Udayagiri, Founder and CEO of unified commerce platform Hesa, said the changing global environment was creating opportunities for greater cooperation among major economies such as India, China and Russia.
Speaking at the event, Udayagiri said the emerging global leadership could lead to significant cross-border changes and expressed optimism about India’s role, particularly under initiatives such as Startup India and Make in India.
He said India had an opportunity to strengthen its position from the Global South to the wider global community, citing the country’s leadership in artificial intelligence, digital transformation, economic transformation and GDP growth.
Udayagiri also highlighted the potential for India to deepen MSME cooperation among BRICS economies, including through initiatives such as an MSME cooperation portal and invoice discounting mechanisms.
